About Walsall African Caribbean Black History Project (wacbhp):
The Walsall African Caribbean Black History Project (wacbhp) was created by 4 history enthusiasts who came together in 2000 to learn, document and promote the stories of our ancestors - with a specific interest in African Caribbean history; told from a local perspective (Walsall) and to share this with the world.
Our books are based on the lived experiences of people, who have come to be known as "the Windrush generation". These are the pioneers who answered the call from British Government and industry to migrate to the UK to help rebuild the country after the 2nd World War and to support the newly created NHS, transport (buses and rail) etc. They heeded the call from all over the West Indies (Caribbean) during the 1950's and 1960's.
Our books are together "local", "national" and "international". Whilst it focuses on the people who settled in Walsall, a town in the heart of the UK; our books contribute to both British and Caribbean history and, as such, world history.
Our books focus on telling the stories of the Windrush Generation, UK . The universal story of "sweat, tears and triumphs".
